Hey there, just starting out and working on an extended project. I write fantasy, with a realistic edge to it.

The premise:

The diary of a trainee, or side-kick as he learns what it means to be under the shadow of a hero and where his place in the world is. Marty is a recently graduated soldier training under an Ordinator, named Gracon, who is a decorated warrior.

1:45 pm - Technicon 24 Needs Hospitality Director and Volunteers

anterus
Greetings, fellow fans of Science Fiction and Fantasy,

Technicon is looking for a few dedicated volunteers for help with Hospitality this year. In particular, we are looking for a Hospitality Director and a few volunteers to help out this bold person throughout the weekend. While the Director will need to be fairly dedicated to his or her job the whole weekend (not saying you won't have time to attend panels and events and have fun, just that you'll have voices in your head the whole time), the volunteers will be needed primarily for specific tasks and will be more free than the Director.

If you're interested in the Hospitality Director position, your duties will consist of acquiring a supply of the usual foods we have in Con Suite, acquiring a similar, though smaller, supply for the Staff Room, and ensuring that these supplies are properly managed throughout the weekend. Additionally, since we are not running hot food in Staff Suite this year, you will likely be in charge of coordinating food runs to the multitudinous restaurant-type places for the rest of the staff, so that they can eat without having to leave the hotel. Again, this should not be to arduous a task, compared to last year's duties, but it will require your attention throughout the weekend.

If you're interested in being a dedicated Hospitality volunteer, you'll be helping out the Director with the tasks I mentioned above, simple as that.

So, if you're interested in either position, please contact volunteers@technicon.org, or just show up to our meetings, which are held at 1400 on Sundays, in 300 Squires (except when we're in 302 Squires, which is right next door), Every Sunday except 4 March, from now until the Con. If you have any friends you think would be interested in these tasks, please, direct them our way as well.

Thanks much,
Jacob 'Crimson' Dawson

The pictures I took are located at the link below. Images have not been resized and are not labeled or thumbnailed. They have, however, been rotated so they are all upright.

Since moving to Reading, PA I've had access to an excellent classic and contemp rock radio station, which has exposed me to a vast amount of music from the 70s and 80s that I'd never heard before. Needless to say, a number of White Plectrum songs are becoming more familiar to me. Now I know I had heard these before, I'm sure, but which WP songs are filks of say "Werewolf of London" or "Take the Money and Run"?

I just had an idea for a VTSFFC film. Paranormal Investigator tracks down a psychic vampire that steals people's thoughts, and likes to hang around college campuses. This even has potential to be serious, but then, we are VTSFFC.

For all the clixx0rs out there, here's a site the helps you play Heroclix online. More or less it runs two applets, one that keeps track of all the dials in the game, and one that keep track of the map and tokens and posistion and stuff. The kicker is that your applet and your opponent's applet don't really talk to each other, you two have to keep each other up to date via a chat program of your choice. (they recommend AIM because of its dice-roller feature in the chat window)

7:40 pm - MS03-039. Joy.

jdunson
Remember the whole RPC DCOM vulnerability, MS03-026, Blaster, and all that? Well, like a bad Hollywood sequel it turned out that the monster wasn't as dead as people thought, and it's back for a rematch. MS03-039 (a.k.a. KB824146) just came out, to patch the original hole (in case somehow you hadn't) and three new similar ones, two of which allow attackers full access to and control over your system.

This has the potential to be even worse than Blaster, because the black hats can take advantage of a lot of the existing exploits and just tweak them. Various experts consider that serious intrusion attempts are likely within days, if not sooner. Patch now (as in tonight), people, before you become another statistic; Windows Update should show it as a Critical Update for most systems.

This has been an on-the-spot report from your friendly local sysadmin, typing live from the dikes with one hand because the other is in up to the shoulder trying to stem the flood...
